Performance measures to measure how much value is being delivered through a project should now be in place following the early stages. Now is the time to really measure value.
You should consider:
- Gathering data regularly
- Using KPIs at project team meetings to measure performance
- Benchmarking and analysing the data to identifying lessons learnt
- Implement lessons learnt – now or on future projects
Gather data regularly
If systems have been established during the Planning and Design stages then the data should be collected as frequently as is appropriate. This frequency should be agreed at the start of the project.
Use KPI’s to measure performance
Key performance data should be included on all project team meeting agendas.
Benchmark and analyse performance data

Implement lessons learnt
Lessons learnt should be captured at each project meeting, recorded via a Lessons Learnt Log and either implemented immediately if value can be gained or recorded ready for a post project appraisal so that the lessons can be taken forward to future projects and/or shared with the industry.
